The microbiology of chronic otitis media among school-children in a rural community /
CM Chiong [and eight others]
Forty schoolchildren randomly selected from 120 patients with 129 chronically draining ears were included in this study. Aerobic cultures of ear aspirates showed the three most common pathogens to be Proteus mirabilis (24.5%), Pseudomonas putida (18.9%) and Proteus vulgaris (11.3%). Sensitivity patterns were also determined and implications in the management of chronic otitis media were discussed.
