Sarmiento3 aIndustrialization carries an increased stress to include ocular trauma. Yet in a not so highly urbanized locale, very sophisticated and expensive diagnostic instruments that help diagnosis and specific localization of intraocular foreign bodies are not currently available. A previous study made at Cebu Doctors Hospital Ultrasound Center using a non-opththalmic (a 5 Mhz rectal probe) in the detection of metallic intraocular foreign bodies using porcine eyes revealed a 100 sensitivity. In the study, the authors would like to determine the sensitivity using the same prove in the localization of metallic intraocular foreign bodies randomly placed in four quadrants in porcine eyes. A total of 75 eyes were used inthe study. Fifteen subjects eyes were used per quadrant plus the control group. The ultrasound probe was noted to be most sensitive at the antero-superior quadrant (93) (p0.05) and least sensitive at the postero-inferior quadrant (73) (p0.01). In the group with no foreign bodies (control), sensitivity was 73 (p0.01). aCebu Doctors' Proceedings, 1994 10 (2) pages 127-31 2aForeign Bodies
