Rubin-Larrazabal3 aThis paper presents a profile of 73 cases of acute leukemia in children during a 5 year period. There were 59 cases (81%) diagnosed as acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), and 13 cases (18%) diagnosed as acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). One case (1%) was diagnosed as chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). The peak age incidence was between two to six years old and had a male predominance. In this study, 46% came from the Central Visayas presenting mostly with fever (68%), pallor (52%), lymphadenopathy (33%), and hepatosplenomegaly (30%). The frequency of infections were also reviewed with respiratory infections accounting for 59% of the 79 infectious episodes. Mortality rate was 19% with sepsis as the leading cause. aCebu Doctors' Proceedings, 1994 10 (2) pages 9-16 2aLeukemia
