TI  - The effect of coconut (Cocos nucifera) haustorium extract on the treatment of second degree burns on rabbits

N2  - The concept of using the coconut haustorium extract for treating second degree burns is the focal point of this research. The present trend in the management of burn involves the use of antibiotics and commercial preparations of therapeutic agents. This study may pave the way for a cheaper, practical and a convenient additional source of medication for second degree burn Coconut haustorium were extracted and a 50% dilution amounting to 30 ml was obtained. Six albino rabbits were inflicted with coils of wire on the gluteal region and a second degree burn was produced. One rabbit serve as the control. The burn was treated with the extract and was under observation every day for one month The results revealed a higher percentage of healing in rabbits treated with the extract which significantly proved its role in the acceleration of wound healing on second degree burns
