Arcadio [and three others]3 aTwenty-nine Filipino children with acute respiratory tract infections entered into a double-blind, randomized study using ambroxol and a placebo. Appropriate clinical features (cough, expectoration, dyspnea, auscultatory findings) and laboratory parameters (FEV1, FVC, PEFR) were utilized in the evaluation of its efficacy before and after treatment. The study group showed greater percentage in the reduction of patients without sputum (17.5%) by the end of the treatment period, compared to the placebo, representing the incremental effect of the drug. Greater ease of expectoration and diminution of cough were also noted for the study group. Percentage of patient cured by the end of the treatment period was also higher for the study group. Mean duration of treatment was 10 days for both the study and control groups. No significant change in the pulmonary function tests and laboratory examinations evaluating the hematopoietic, hepatic, and renal functions was observed. No side-effects nor adverse reactions were noted. a The Filipino Family Physician, 1985 23 ( 4 ) pages 15-23 2aAmbroxol1 a Arcadio, Ramon L.1 aRoa, Camilo 1 aSio, Juliet 1 aOsteria, Trinidad cJA c4216d4216 00102nlm4070aDOHCLbDOHCLcElectronicResd2021-04-24l0oJ000549pD0001J000549r2021-04-24 00:00:00w2021-04-24yJA
