| 520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | A new framework for effective tuberculosis control was created and a new five-element strategy referred to as Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) is now being promoted worldwide. This strategy emphasizes tuberculosis control as a public-health priority and should be in the political agenda of governments. It also emphasizes a multi-sector approach based on advocacy and social mobilization and engagement of private practitioners. In the Philippines, the National Coordinating Committee for Private-Public Mix DOTS (NCC-PPMD) composed of representatives from Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis (PhiICAT), a representative from the private sector and representative from the DOH-NTP, has encouraged the development and implementation of strategies designed to increase the involvement of the private sector in tuberculosis control. This article discusses the development of different conceptual framework that draws upon the World Health Organizations DOTS strategy and modified to assist the systematic analysis of the implementation of DOTS in the private sector. |
